New England Country Soup is a Cambridge, Massachusetts based company that has launched a line of ready to heat and eat classic soups. They use natural ingredients and have created an earth conscious pouch for you to store and heat up the soups. It is very convenient since you do not need a can opener or anything to open the pouch. You can heat it upright in your microwave in the pouch or pour it out and simmer it in a pot on the stovetop, and within minutes the soups are ready to enjoy.
They pride themselves on using recipes that are low in sodium and taste just like they’re homemade. Options include New England Clam Chowder, Lentil, and Nana’s Chicken Soup. I sampled this one and saw on the package they take onions, celery, chicken, tomatoes, spinach, rice, beans, garlic, and chicken stock, amongst the many ingredients, to create the soup.
I personally found it bland and wasn’t a fan of the texture of the chicken (it kind of reminded me of canned chicken or tuna). I also found the broth to be plain and noticed it was creamier then I would have expected. I do appreciate the convenience of it though and that they use real ingredients and keep it low in calories (120), at only 3 Weight Watchers Points Plus.
They have other specialty soups like Sweet Chicken Curry, featuring chicken, tomatoes, carrots, apples, raisins and basmati rice as well as Chicken Pomodoro, which is another one I sampled.
Featuring chicken, pasta, tomatoes, onions, garlic, and herbs and spices like oregano, basil, and rosemary, the soups ingredients are very simple, similar to their other options. And the pouch comes with two servings just like their other selections as well. This one had only 140 calories per serving and 6 grams of fat, which is about 4 Weight Watchers Points Plus. I liked the broth in this one much better! A nice herby tomato broth with pieces of tomato and other veggies.
But again the chicken did not wow me. In general, as a disclaimer, I like vegetarian soups because of this exact reason! It is quick and healthy though so that is a plus and it’s really filling. With a dash of salt to boost the broth of these low sodium soups, I would give it another chance and am curious about some of the other flavors; I just wasn’t completely sold just yet.
