There is nothing better then all the usual Thanksgiving recipes – turkey with stuffing, green bean casserole, sweet potatoe pie, mashed potatoes, and more. But I am intrigued by these recipes, featuring slight changes to the old recipes we know and love!
Who needs canned crispy onions, when this recipe on Delish features homemade fried onion rings on top of green bean casserole…
Green Bean Casserole with Onion Rings
I saw this recipe prepared on “Worst Cooks in America” tv show and it sounds like a great combo of ingredients!
Whipped Sweet Potatoes and Bananas with Honey
I wouldn’t mind giving these cheesy mini potato creations a try…
We have had this one many times (see last years here)…but here is a recipe for it!
Forget about a boring store-bought veggies and dip platter –
how creative is this!
Thanksgiving Turkey Veggie Tray Kids Can’t Resist Eating
A bit of bourbon in the cranberry sauce? I bet the husband would be excited about this one…
Vanilla Bourbon Cranberry Sauce
This salad looks bright and fresh and so tasty too!
POMEGRANATE, PEAR, PISTACHIO SALAD WITH CREAMY POMEGRANATE DRESSING
What do you think..stick with the old-fashioned, tried and true recipes or try something new every year?
Fran Gleeson says
I see fried calamari on those green beans but don’t see it in the recipe. Is it something you improvised?
Anyway, it’s cool looking.
Imagine Jack Daniels in cranberry sauce. Really awesomely creative. It would be cool to watch the kids get a buzz from eating it. Bet it would calm down the munchkins.
My brother is in AA . I guess I’d have to tell him about the booze. What do you think?
I could just keep it to myself and see if he’s affected.
Anyway, love the fried calamari idea on the green beans.
Michelle says
Nooo not fried calamari – onion rings ! Yeah best to disclose alcohol is in any recipe when alcoholics or kiddos or pregnant gals are involved…really best to tell !

Michelle….please click on that link above before it’s too late!!!!!?????
It can be so dangerous to deep fry a turkey. My prayers are with you and Sal that no danger comes to your family during the turkey cooking process.
Be safe and roast it in an OVER.
I suggest that Sal wear a fire retardant suit with asbestos gloves and goggles just to be safe.
Michelle says
yikes ! thanks for the warning ! The husband is very careful and has been frying turkey for years 🙂
Yuri says
I love Thanksgiving even though I don’t have very much to be thankful for.
The new president wants to deport me, the new Vice President wants me to stop loving men and convert me to straight (sorry, but I
Ike sausages more than roast beef) and I can’t stop gaining weight.
Anyway, it’s on to Christmas. I want a rugged Leonardo DiCaprio kind of guy for my stocking. Hahaha
Fat chance, more like Dom Deluise is in my future.
Cat Con says
I ❤❤ leftovers.
Do you ❤them too?
Turkey sandwiches and using the carcass for soup.
I use the turkey broth for risotto. You should try it.
Risotto Milanese is the best. Makes a great side to osso bmccoy@easternstandardboston.com.
But I bet you knew that and I bet Sal loves when you make a big pot of osso bucco with Risotto mildness.
Go Pats….I hate the Jets and hope the Pats make them cry like the babies that they are.
I’m going to get drunk and watch football and when Pats win I’m going out and find the cutest sissy boy to bring home and toss around.
Michelle says
Leftovers are the best ! I love a simple turkey sandwich too – i really only seem to like the sides one or two more times and then I am over it ha
We didnt do anything with the bones/body this year – although broth would’ve been nice !
Cat Con says
Whoops..I meant osso bucco
And not the email address of some guy I picked up one night…
My bad
Michelle says
OMG ! funny !
Gerri Waxman says
That salad is yummy.
Straight hippy food, so earthy and crunchy.
Oy
It made me want to go buy some Birkenstocks and let my armpit hair growth.
But it’s great and good for you
Michelle says
Ha I love a good mix of healthy and indulgent recipes !
Louise Erdich says
I’m leaning towards Fran and also think those Green beans are covered with fried calamari.
Anyway I bet fried calamari on green beans would be terrific
Michelle says
Nooo ha click the recipe link – i swear the recipe is for onions 🙂
Louise Erdich says
Your doing that 12 fish Christmas Eve feast? If you are, that fried squid on the green beans could be one of the dishes.
Agree?
Yuri says
Hello…
Merry Christmas
You okay?
Maybe that cranberry sauce with Jack Daniels knocked you out…hahaha
Gerri Waxman says
Speaking of new twists on old favorites, I have a great idea for a future blog post.
Now that Marijuana is legal, how about doing a sweet piece on getting baked with baked goods?
Get it? Baked meaning stoned with edibles like pot-laced cookies and brownies.
That would be fun and the research even better.
Can’t wait to read it: My suggested title
It’s A High Time You Tried These Sweet Treats: Eat your way to bliss
Michelle says
HAHA “baked” from baked goods is a pretty funny idea 🙂
Maureen Triarsi says
Merry Christmas
Happy New Year
Hope you’re okay and not in therapy for any kind of injury or illness.
Is the blog in the bottom of the 9th?
Maybe Sal can take over or maybe his father can now that he has time on his hands after selling his Italian restaurant…
Try rotating it among family members and friends. Have some guest bloggers. Wrinkle it up.
Maybe one of your bf’s who skis could blog about apres ski drinks…
One of your gym friends something on protein shakes..
That girl you know who’s a stripper could do a blog on strip club etiquette…. the do and don’ts at the club
Your bartender bf could write a blog entry on fun winter drinks made with hot chocolate and booze
As you see I’m creative…
Michelle says
Happy holidays to YOU !!! ohhh guest bloggers isnt a bad idea !! BAHAH nope dont know any strippers 😉
Lan Nyugen says
R.I.P
Eat and Sip had a nice run, but alas the blog world bids adieu.
Onward to new horizons as eat and sip eats and sips her way to a new life.
Maybe she’ll become a full time tomato farmer or she and Sal will get back into the pizza business – heard you can make a lot of dough in that…..hahaha
Michelle says
Noooo not rip 🙁 ugh i need to get back to blogging more often i know !!!
Leanne Foley says
Interesting blog. You give Thanksgiving twists and go on vacation.
Will the Christmas suggestions appear on Christmas Eve? And then you’ll take another month off?
Nice work if you can it!!?????????
Michelle says
Ugh i know if only i didnt work two jobs and could just blog all the time like the old days 🙁
Amy Jenkins-Lopez says
I was told to visit this site for Christmas eve 7 Fish feast suggestions.
Am I misguided? All I see is some fried squid on green beans and no mention of the Feast of Seven Fishes.
What gives?
Want me to take over the blog?
I’m full of perky ideas.
Michelle says
Hi ! Sorry I am late to the party ! We did grilled shrimp, baked shrimp, raw clams, salted cod, octopus salad, calamari, bacon wrapped scallops, grilled scallops…i think that was the menu !
