Did you see the title? Yup, we are going there today. Let’s talk about sex baby, let’s talk about you and me…Ok sorry! Back to the topic at hand. Check out a guest post, with details on foods that are aphrodisiacs. Move over oysters because we’ve got a list of 5 other options below.
People have been using culinary aphrodisiacs for a long time, just hoping to seduce their partner, but despite centuries of effort, the debate continues on. Are there foods that really are aphrodisiacs and do they truly work? The U.S. FDA sticks by the fact that they don’t exist and there is literally zero evidence to back up the claims, but it doesn’t keep people from believing.
Maybe there is something lurking there beneath our food that works wonders on our psyche and loins or maybe it’s truly just mind over matter. It’s a personal thing, but no matter what your thoughts are, there are definitely some food choices out there that seem to consistently show up on the aphrodisiac list. So you can take it all with a grain of salt or consider playfully mixing in a few of these items with a sexy night of wine and lingerie from stores such as Adam & Eve and see what happens! Here are five foods to consider:
1. Chocolate
Chocolate is king in the aphrodisiac family and it’s not surprising. This blend of cacaoy goodness contains two crucial chemicals: tryptophan and phenylethylamine. Tryptophan is a building block for serotonin which is a brain chemical involved in sexual arousal and phenylethylamine is the same stimulant the brain releases when people fall in love. Opt for dark chocolate versus milk or white so you can have the highest percentage of cacao.
2. Pomegranate
Pomegranates are closely tied to the Greek goddess of love and sexuality, Aphrodite (which is where the word aphrodisiac came from). Some people also believe that the forbidden fruit in the Bible was actually a pomegranate, not an apple. With that said, eating pomegranates regularly is known to increase levels of testosterone in men and women. Testosterone is directly related to sexual arousal. Look for 100% pomegranate juice if you don’t want to be bothered with the seeds.
3. Garlic
Garlic is one of those aphrodisiacs that requires both of the interested parties to consume it, mostly because one of you will be pungent and the will not and that’s kind of a fast turn off. If you both eat it, you’ll both be accustomed to the smell and taste. Garlic works because it increases your blood flow, which will in turn increase the blood flow to your very essential organs and make them much more sensitive. Make a stir fry or roast some vegetables with garlic in it. Be sure to use fresh bulbs.
4. Honey
Honey, is the name we often use to refer to our partner or combined with moon, becomes the name of your celebratory wedding vacation. Honey is also a delicious sweetener that can boost estrogen levels in women, testosterone in men, and it increases levels of nitric oxide in the body, which is a chemical released in the blood during arousal. Interestingly enough, some sufferers of erectile dysfunction have found that honey and tonic works as a great home remedy. Take your honey anyway you can get it…on fruit, in tea, on toast!
5. Bananas
Bananas are an obvious choice just in shape alone. You can’t even eat a banana without it feeling phallic. But beyond that, bananas actually have lots of nutrients that are essential to sexual hormone production like potassium and B vitamins. And while some people believe the forbidden fruit was an apple and others believe it was a pomegranate, Islamics believe that it was a banana. Eat your banana however you want, just make sure it’s sexy.
Q: What do you think? Yay or nay on eating Aphrodisiacs to spice up your love life?

Ha! Great post! To tell you the truth, aphrodisiac or not, but it is a “yay” for all five items you mentioned – they are all good foods. I would say that garlic is the most peculiar on your list – I get your point, but garlic would be probably the last thing I would think of as aphrodisiac…
