Eat and Sip in the City

My 5 on Friday Favorites – 1/2/15

My first five favorites of the new year! Hope everyone is having a great holiday week. It has been a good balance of being productive but at the same time, so lazy and relaxed. Anyways I usually link up with my “Friday Fave Five” but Mom’s Got Mail hasn’t hosted in a bit so I am linking up with these lovely sites:

The Good Life
1. Favorite in Shopping:
I went on a mini online shopping spree on Zulily thanks to both store credit for referals and my generous boss at my “day job” giving me a gift card! Here is what was in my shopping cart:
  • Purple Beaded Yoke Dress
    Christine V

  • Black & Gray Stripe Drawstring Shift Dress
    Just Love

  • Black Flower Double Chain Bib Necklace

  • Black & White Zebra Infinity Scarf
    Rapti

    2. Favorite of my Subscription Boxes:
So I only did one month of Urthbox with a coupon from Rue La La, but I am actually really liking this box. Blue cheese popcorn? Best idea ever! And I had the pomegranate berry nut clusters for breakfast the other day and they are tasty and crunchy and delish.
3. Favorite Restaurant:
Last weekend, after a visit with my future SIL at the hospital, we ate at Antonio’s in Beacon Hill with the fam. Of all the things on the menu, I had a craving for good old salad and spaghetti and meatballs! We also got mussels for the table and an artichoke appetizer. And I was jealous of Sals moms dinner….lobster ravioli! We of course didn’t NEED dessert but shared a piece of mousse cake. Excuse the blurry phone pics!
4. Favorite Freebie:
I received a free box of goodies in the Influenster #frostyvoxbox to review and check out. In the box is:

1. Fruit Vines  a yummy fruit, licorice snack. #SweetSide.

2. EcoTools Hair Brush  a round brush perfect for straightening, curling, or just after the shower to get out tangles. #LoveMyEcoHairBrush.

3. Boot’s No7 Protect & Perfect Intense ADVANCED Serum  for smoothing deep lines and wrinkles. #GetADVANCED.

4. NYC Expert Last Lip Color in Sugar Plum a perfect winter colored lipstick. #SugarPlum

5. Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner a waterproof eyeliner. #Rimmel.

6. McCormick Gourmet Thyme a dry spice for soups, stews, stuffings and more!  #McCormickGourmet.

7. Celestial Seasoning Candy Cane Lane Decaf Green Tea a tea with a combo of peppermint and green tea #CelestialTea.

8. Rimmel Gentle Eye Makeup Remover to gently remove makeup without leaving any oily residue. #Rimmel.

5. Favorite Food:
I am a lucky lady because the fiance loves cooking and makes the most delicious dinners! Here is a pic of one of his recent creations – chicken marsala! (Similar recipe here)

Quick shout out and congrats to Jennifer A. who won the Renew Essentials Collection Giveaway! Enjoy! And stay tuned…next week I have another sponsored giveaway – with gift cards to Bruegger’s bagels up for grabs!

What are the favorites in your world this week?

    OMG!!!!!

Sal the Italian Stallion can cook Indian food. How sexy is that! !!

That chicken tikki masala looks beyond delish!!!!

I have a question though, when you went to Antonios, you got the old salad. Is that a special where they allow the things in the salad to marinate overnight, or is it a special deal where you can buy the salad for half price like day old muffins and bread at a bakery?

oops not masala but actual marsala 😉

I just called it old salad because it is kind of an old favorite combo for me …salad and pasta 🙂

Jill, that’s too funny. Goes to show you how one one letter changes the meaning or in this case the recipe and taste.

Masala and Marsala. I love them both.

But I don’t get why you got mussels for the table? Didn’t anybody like them? Just leaving them on the table should have been a signal to the waiter that someting was wrong.

I’d tell them plain out that these mussels aren’t good and ask that they be removed from the bill,. did they do the right thing and take them off the check?

Oh no, when I say for the table i mean for everyone to share …as an appetizer we ordered it ! Not just for me or anything – they were really good – in a tasty broth. And always fun to eat.

Robyn, sounds like you don’t go to many dinners with big groups. For the table is just what Michelle says “for everyone at the table; ” even if some people don’t like them.

If they don’t like mussels then they could get “eggplant rollatini for the table. ”

I bet it’s fun to go out with Sal and Michelle: one is a great cook and the other is a great and famous food critic. I bet the food talk would be like hanging around Giada DeLaurentis and James Beard or Julia Child.

Do you get lots of free stuff because you promise to post pix on your blog site? I bet you take good advantage of your food Celebrity status…it must be a real blast to have dinner with you two and share “mussels for the table. “
