Eat and Sip in the City

Scenes from Christmas Eve 2014

What a week of highs and lows! My biz has been busy, I worked at the day job, and as usual I was last minute at getting together all the gifts and getting them wrapped, until the very last second. Plus my future SIL was in the hospital and we paid plenty of visits to her and missed her at the events TONS! But on the plus side, there was no shortage of food and family and plenty of gifts, so I wanted to pop in and share photos and find out how YOUR holidays were too!

Here are some fun food pics from the Feast of the Seven Fishes! Disclaimer – nothing too fancy! It was a very casual meal.

There are always raw clams galore….

One of my favorites were the coconut shrimp!

Check out the octopus getting grilled! I only had a couple of bites but everyone else loves them.

It seriously took hours for the fiance to get through frying all this squid…

The final product:

Here is a bowl of the Baccala Salad (see a similar recipe here)

There was also grilled shrimp, baked shrimp, fried cod, grilled squid, broccoli rabe and fennel. So definitely a seafood feast! Dessert was cheesecake, tiramisu, and lemon meringue. I think next year we will rethink the cooking situation because no joke it took hours for dinner to be ready with the tiny fryer! And I will bring a side dish to contribute since I am not a big fan of the broccoli or fennel. But all and all, great to see everyone and drink wine and catch up and chow down!

How was your x-mas eve? I will pop in to share Christmas and weekend pics soon and show off some of my amazing gifts!

    Yummy
ypu Italians have a great thing going with that seven fish dinner on Christmas eve.

I’m shocked you don’t like fennel as it’s such a key to the Southern Italian diet. Think licorice but only crunchy and good for you.

But your troubles with the squid only make it easier whst to get the Italian Stallion for his birthday: a big fryer thst can do all that squid at once.

However, this leads me to another thought. You fried that turkey in some contraption rigged into a hole in your garage. Couldn’t you just fry all the squid in that thing?

Yes – that might actually be a good plan !
