Here are my worthwhile reads from the web from last week 10/29:
This has been quite a week. Sandy wreaked havoc on the east coast and some of us were lucky enough to end up with no power outages, flooding, or issues. Work was pretty much BAU except for getting out early one of the days. Then midweek I tried to keep the spirit up with my Halloween poem. But as clean-ups are still taking place and people are slowly but surely getting back their power, I just wanted to send thoughts and prayers to those who are still affected by everything that went on! I shipped a box to a friend of a friend in Long Island who was collecting clothing donations. Here is a round-up of how you can do something to help still too.
Speaking of Halloween this week, Cookies and Cups posted ways to use up your candy.
I love salads. Yes, I do like the salads with crisp veggies and light dressing. But I also enjoy not as healthy salads with tons of mayo. Tuna, chicken, egg, potato, and macaroni. Yes please! This Chipotle Chicken Salad sounds very tasty and packed with flavors.
The sage in my urban garden is still looking fresh and flavorful. I found this recipe for Spaghetti with Portabellas, Sage & Walnuts that would be a good way to use some of it up before the frosty weather wilts it.
I also have some fresh thyme in my herb garden to make Deb Perelman’s Mushroom Bourguignon, which is featured on Food 52 today.
This time of year can be stressful with dishing out lots of dough on gifts, decorations, and food. Working out and eating right can help boost your mood along with this list of Best Foods to Fight Stress.
With Thanksgiving around the corner, Baked by Rachel posted a recipe for Gratin Dauphinois. This translates to a side dish that is creamy, cheesy, buttery, and made with potatoes. I would be pretty pumped if someone made this for me on turkey day!
Boston Magazine came out with their most recent list of the top 50 Boston restaurants!
Also Brazilian steakhouse chain Fogo de Chão is now open in Boston.
And another new bar alert for Somerville: Daddy Jones is open!
Hope everyone had a good weekend and that this week brings much more positive things for all. Stay warm and don’t forget to change ALL your clocks for Daylight Savings!
