Three Boston skinny cocktail recipes for summer

Local spots in Boston are offering skinny, lower calorie cocktail options! To help guests have some guilt free fun this summer, they are using fresh fruit, soda water, herbs, and other ingredients to add flavor to vodka and other liquors. They have even shared their recipes and info about the cocktails too, so whether you are local and want to head to the bar and have a taste of the drinks from the expert bartenders or make up a batch at your next BBQ, they have you covered.

Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar –217 Stuart Street, Boston– 617.292.0808

Info: Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar has returned with the Russian Prom Queen (99 calories – $11.95) as part of their ongoing “Skinny Sippin’ Summer” series.

RUSSIAN PROM QUEEN

INGREDIENTS

1.25 oz Stoli Blueberi

1 oz      Monin sugar-free syrup

1 oz      Fresh lime juice

1 oz      Soda water

6          Blueberries

5          Slices of thinly-sliced cucumber

METHOD

Muddle blueberries and cucumber with Monin sugar-free syrup.

Add other ingredients and shake well. Strain into a martini glass.

Spear cucumber slice and a blueberry on a cocktail pick.

Haru Sushi –55 Huntington Avenue, Boston– 617.536.0770

Info: Haru serves up the Watermelon Fizz (under 100 calories – $13), a light, “skinny” concoction for summer that infuses freshly muddled watermelon and cilantro into Inocente Tequila and is then finished with a splash of lime and soda water.

WATERMELON FIZZ

INGREDIENTS

1 oz      Inocente Tequila

3 oz     Fresh watermelon

.1 oz     Simple syrup

.1 oz     Soda water

5          Pieces of cilantro

Squeeze of lime

METHOD

Muddle watermelon along with cilantro leaves (split in halves).Add ice, simple syrup, tequila.

Shake vigorously and pour all contents into a rocks glass.

Garnish with a piece of watermelon in a bamboo spike.

Info: Poe’s take on the Caipirinha (135 calories – $9) is the ideal summer cocktail for keeping up with Brazilian-cut bikini bodies.  Chef Poe is married to a woman from Brazil who weighed in on perfecting Poe’s delicious, calorie-friendly Caipirinha.

POE’S KITCHEN CAIPIRINHA

INGREDIENTS:

Cachaca

Muddled lime

Sugar (two packets of your choice)

Fresh lemon juice

Soda water

METHOD

Combine cut limes and sugar in glass.

Mash with a wooden spoon until the lime juice and the sugar start to dissolve.

Add cachaca, lemon juice and soda water. Mix well and add crushed ice.
