They have set up shop at the grocery store. They are in the lobby of our office buildings. They may have even showed up at your door step. They are the Girl Scouts! It is that time of year again when they are eagerly selling the cookies we can’t get enough. And this year, they are celebrating their 100th Anniversary with a new cookie: Savannah Smiles. Now through the end of the month, March 31st, for under 5 bucks, you can get your hands on a box of the sweet treats.
Does the new cookie Savannah Smiles beat out my other favorites Samoas or Tagalongs for best Girl Scout cookie? No, definitely not. But it does have a great, light lemon flavor. My first observation is that it is not exactly shaped liked “smiles” but it is a small cookie, covered in powdered sugar, which does in turn make me smile.
They almost resemble the texture of biscotti, because of its dry, yet crisp center. The lemon flavor does in fact shine through in your mouth and it actually reminded me of one of my favorite Greek yogurts, which is, you guessed it, also lemon. They advertise lemon chips in it, and I was expecting to see more of those, which I did not, but you can definitely taste them. What also made me happy about these is you get five cookies in a serving, which is not too shabby for those of us watching our waistlines.
For more information, visit the Girl Scouts of Nassau County website at www.gsnc.org. Also be on the lookout for the Girl Scouts in the weeks to come and check out their website to find out where they will be. They will be selling the new cookie along with: Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, Do-Si-Dos and Trefoils all month long, so don’t miss out on your chance to support them, while satisfying your own sweet tooth.

I had no clue there was a new cookie! After spending all of my childhood as a girl scout you’d think I’d be more in the loop 🙂 Thanks for sharing – these look good!
