Right in Downtown Crossing, I finally made my way into Cakeology’s bakery. I know what you are thinking. Not another cupcake spot. Cupcakes are so not 2012. Pies, macarons, and even marshmallows are the big thing right now, but for me, cupcakes are still number one! Ever since 2010 when Victoria Donnelly, the president of Cakeology in Boston, won on Food Network’s Cupcake Wars, I was always curious about this company, which started as Boston’s first mobile cupcake bakery.
In 2011, for my birthday, I decided to take advantage of their free delivery and ordered some of their moist, generously frosted, unique flavored cupcakes for my office in celebration of my birthday.
They opened up a small bakery right near Sweet and it wasn’t until recently that I made my way in to check out their first retail store front.
They specialize in creating sweet treats like cake pops, French macarons, sugar cookies, truffles, and wedding and event cakes, but cupcakes really are the star of the show in their bakery.
They serve 6 flavors of cupcakes each day with three special selections also offered. The Classic Flavors are Boston Cream Pie, Carrot Cake, Vanilla Vanilla, Double Chocolate, Red Velvet, and German Chocolate.
Special menu additions include Peanut Butter & Jelly, Chocolate Covered Strawberry, Brownie Sundae, and Guinness among the many choices.
There are just three small tables if you want to relax and stay awhile. The décor is girly, modern, and just plain perfect. Instead of salt and pepper, the tables feature sprinkles shakers!
It is the kind of place that makes you want to quit your day job and bake cupcakes all day…especially the part where you get to taste them!
