Eat and Sip in the City

Baking up the May Cookie Co’s Hearty & Wholesome Oatmeal Cranberry Cookies

I was pretty excited when natural cookie mix company May Cookie Co, which happens to be based out of my hometown in Connecticut, sent along some of their cookie mixes to give them a try. Owned and operated by mother and daughter team, Susan and Marissa, they have created mixes that allow home bakers to make up a batch of cookies, using wholesome ingredients. Their products can be conveniently purchased online or by heading over to your nearest Whole Foods Market.

A perfect way to spend a cold Sunday afternoon, I headed over to my friend Sara’s apartment recently to put her new Kitchen Aid mixer to use. We found the mix so easy to make and the directions extremely simple to follow, in a quick manner. Check out my pictures from baking up a batch of their cookies below:

Oatmeal and Cranberry Cookie Mix

The box comes with four labeled packages: one with flour, oats, sugar, and the cranberries. Add in butter, eggs, and vanilla, plus take out some parchment paper to line the cookie sheet (which means lightly baked cookies with no mess), and that is it!

All the ingredients ready to go

The nutritional information for the cookies is around 130 calories and 5 grams of fat, depending on how big you make the cookies and how many the mix makes. For us, we ended up with 18 cookies, although the box stated it would be more like 24 to 30 cookies.

Mixing it up

While the cookies were baking, we ran down the hall for a second and came back to find the apartment filled with the smell of brown sugar and cinnamon; so warm and inviting.

Time to pop them in the oven for around 12-15 minutes

And once the cookies were cooled down after baking, the cookies were very fluffy and light in texture and because of how we rolled them, cakey and delicious.

Lightly brown on the bottom and edges!

They are not too sweet so instead of dessert, I think these make a perfect snack in the afternoon or even breakfast with a cup of tea or glass of milk. I can’t wait to try the other kinds. They also offer Rich & Chewy Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix, and Triple Chocolate Oatmeal Cookie Mix. They even took the time to do a Q&A with me, to provide even more insight into their company and products, which can be found on my Examiner food column here.
